@$*&%! Web host
Sempstress.org is down, and handing out 403 errors. I've mailed my host, but it's been more than 37 seconds and they haven't responded. What's happened to the good old days of sys admins who could fire back something snippy in no time flat?

Apparently, the tech support people at my host suspended my account, claiming that I'm running scripts in my gallery that are consuming "hundreds of megs of ram and causing the entire system to go into swap mode."

Ok, first off, I don't have any scripts in that folder. I have SSIs, but I have those all over the entire site.

Secondly, WHY THE HELL DIDN"T THEY EMAIL ME ABOUT THIS????? The lady I spoke with said that it was late and there was no one there to email me, but I seem to recall being an admin and being able, and required, to mail people when I did crap in their accounts. I think I'm going to be finding a new host. This is the third time I've had an issue with these folks that they've tried to turn around and blame on me. Grrrrr......

"Our tech support says that all your pages in your Gallery directory are extremely out of date and vulnerable to outside attacks. All your scripts need to be updated before we can reinstate your account. They said your scripts are very badly written."

"That's a very general complaint. By 'scripts', what exactly do you mean? HTML? The SSIs? Help me out here."

"Tech support says it's all your scripts. Every kind of them. They're outdated and open our servers up to outside attacks."

"THERE .. ARE ... NO ... SCRIPTS .. IN .. THAT ... DIRECTORY."

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!

They won't even consider blocking access to the offending directoy but putting the rest of the site up. They said I have to fix the problem, but they can't give me any better idea of what the problem is. How about, the problem is your servers aren't properly set up to detect zombie processes and kill them? Zombies happen. We all know this. Any script can forget to stop taking memory, if the server allows it. My gallery directory is full of pages that have HTML that pulls in, I believe, *three* additional snippets via SSIs. It's the same stuff that's been sitting there, just fine, for the last couple years. It's HTML. How does HTML go out of date? Could someone tell me that? Have there been drastic changes in web technology since I left the field? What the fuckity-fuck-fuck are these people talking about? And why is it that every time I mail them to say that my site is down, they find some way to make it *my* problem? I'm not the freaking tech support. It's not *my* problem. It's tech support's freaking problem. What they hell did these people do? Switch to Windows servers? Gawd.

I'm livid.

Absolutely livid.
